Dipterocarpus grandiflorus (Apitong) is a tropical tree from Malaysia & Indonesia. It is mainly grown for its fuel crops (long shelflife), but also

Dipterocarpus grandiflorus has a lifespan of 700 years.The tree is 43 meters tall. It is fast growing and tolerates not less light than partial shade. (endo and ecto mycorrhiza). It is able to fix nitrogen with - bacteria. The tree`s flower-morphology is bi-sexual and is pollinated by insects.Dipterocarpus grandiflorus thrives in an altitude of 0 to 600 meters above sea-level (tropical). The minimum temperature is 14°C and optimally between 24 - 28°C. The optimal rainfall is 2900 mm/year. Without irrigation the annual rainfall should be between 900 - 4000 mm (L/m²).
