Description and Uses

Vitex keniensis (Meru oak) is a tropical tree from East Africa. The tree`s wood is called Meru oak wood and has a density of 550 - 650 kg/m³.


Environmental limitations

It is not able to fix nitrogen.

Vitex keniensis thrives in an altitude of 1290 to 2100 meters above sea-level (tropical). The minimum temperature is 0°C and optimally between 16 - 20°C. The optimal rainfall is 2400 mm/year. Without irrigation the annual rainfall should be between 900 - 3000 mm (L/m²). The optimal soil-pH is between 6.0 - 8.0 in a soil texture of sand.
